So after 3 years of incredible times working on harvest and in the wineries of Napa and Oregon, this year it's time to head a long way South. It's another beautiful day down here in San Rafael, Mendoza, Argentina. A big thanks to head wine maker Mauro Nosenzo, for the last week teaching me all things, picking, pressing, ageing and blending, the Argentinian way, certainly very different.
Everything is done by hand, even the labelling and everything right here at Algodon Wines. It's also great to be in a town still respecting a 4 hour siesta!! They are making some seriously good Cabs, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and of course Malbec. My particular favourite, the superb Malbec blend called Pima. For a bargain try the Bonarda, a less well known grape but equally great with a good pice of rib eye straight off the grill.
A good selection of their wines are available from Mike at Wine Alley, currently Red is stocking the Bonarda but a lot more soon. Ok, back to the grind, more tasting and Siesta await, I'm too old for picking grapes in this heat!!
